The RailBoss® Rail Scale from Rice Lake is a modular, bolt-on rail weighing system designed to fit seamlessly into existing rail infrastructure. With an axle capacity of 80,000 lb and full scale capacity of up to 320,000 lb, RailBoss offers reliable and precise railcar checkweighing without the cost or complexity of traditional pit-type rail scales.
Each 5 ft 10 in rail section is pre-fitted with strain gauges to measure load per wheel or truck, allowing for full railcar weight readings and axle weight monitoring. These sections are bolted onto your existing track and ties, greatly reducing installation time and costs. The system is compatible with track centers between 5'9" and 5'11", making it ideal for most standard rolling stock.
RailBoss is available in full-draft or double-draft configurations, depending on how many axles or trucks you need to weigh at once. It also offers flexible electronics options, including the 1280 Enterprise™ Series with a large color touchscreen and 920i® indicators with RailBoss software. Calibration units and custom cable lengths are also available.
This system is designed for non-Legal-for-Trade applications, such as process control, overloading prevention, inventory management, and safety compliance. Whether you're weighing bulk grain, cement, scrap, or chemicals, RailBoss provides a robust, scalable solution that won’t disrupt line traffic.
